Scholarship Club will sponsor its fall benefit, ” … And the Winner Is … Scholarships,” from 7 to 10 p.m. Nov. 6 in the Park Ridge Country Club. Order of Hibernians announces an Irish History Writing Contest. All students in sixth through 12th grades are eligible. Students in sixth, seventh and eighth grades (Level 1) will write on “From Ireland to the Kentucky Derby – The History of Irish Influence on Horse Races,” 500 to 1,000 words; students in ninth through 12th grades (Level 2), will write on “The Celtic Tiger, What Is It?” in 750 to 1,500 words. Division 8 will select five essays at each level (first, second and third places and two honorable mentions) and award gift cards. These essays will be forwarded to the State of Illinois Ancient Order of Hibernians Historian for consideration and submission to the National Irish Historian.
