Suspended Nev. judge has surgery for fractures

LAS VEGAS—A suspended Nevada state judge underwent surgery for skull fractures after her husband was arrested on suspicion of hitting her with a frying pan, a friend said.
Bobbi Tackett described Elizabeth Halverson’s condition as serious at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where she underwent surgery Friday. Tackett met Halverson in 2001 when the two worked for another judge.

FDA will open inspection office in China this year

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Food and Drug Administration will establish its first office in China before the end of the year as part of a broader plan to assure the safety of imports from the developing world.
