Omaha's health care costs may soar in '09

Providing City of Omaha employees with health care has never been cheap, and it’s about to get a lot more expensive.
Inflation, employee retirements and an unusually large number of high-cost medical procedures are projected to cause the city’s health care costs to rise 17 percent in 2009, to more than $44 million.
That is the largest jump since 2004, when health care costs rose 19 percent. The city insures 3,843 employees and retirees.
