Leaders anticipate medical center's convenience, jobs

Mount Carmel Health Systems and Fairfield Medical Center broke ground last week on their state-of-the-art emergency care facility at U.S. Route 33 and Diley Road in Violet Township.
In December, the two hospitals unveiled plans for the facility to be located on the west side of Diley Road north of the Diley-Route 33 interchange.

Infections will come out in the hand wash

A NATIONWIDE campaign to coax doctors and nurses in hospitals to
wash their hands more often is expected next year to counter
hospital-caused infections that are linked to more deaths than the
national road toll.
The failure of hospital staff to wash their hands before and
after contact with each patient is blamed for most of the 200,000
cases of hospital-acquired infections which are linked with up to

Motor home fire in Capitola sends one victim to hospital

CAPITOLA – A large motor home was fully engulfed in flames on Windward Lane at 8:15 this morning, according to emergency dispatchers.
Central Fire responded to the call. Battalion Chief John Ritchey said the motor home ran out of gas when the owner pulled into the private road to fill up.
“He put gas inside the carburetor to get things going, but it backfired and caught fire,” Ritchey said. “He was inside the unit to access the motor when it happened.”
