Utah gets average score on preparedness

A rocky economy has put America’s emergency preparedness in jeopardy, according to a report that gives Utah seven out of 10 points for its efforts.
The sixth annual “Ready or Not? Protecting the Public’s Health from Diseases, Disasters and Bioterrorism” gave five states a perfect score: Louisiana, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Virginia and Wisconsin. Utah’s seven was average.

Woman in crash refuses copter, dies in hospital

A Santaquin woman died Wednesday after losing control of her car on Interstate 15, and subsequently refusing to be flown by helicopter to a hospital.
    Jodi Martinez, 40, was driving a Pontiac Sunfire north near Santaquin about 5:10 p.m. when she veered off the left side of the road, according to Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Cameron Roden. She pulled the car back to the right, but overcorrected and the car hit an empty dolly pulled by a pickup.
