Drug Combo Fights Recurrent Ovarian Cancer Cell Growth

THURSDAY, Sept. 18 (HealthDay News) — The anti-cancer drug trabectedin shows promise in treating women with recurrent ovarian cancer, according to a study led by researchers at the University of California, Irvine.

Norovirus outbreak at Dunedin Hospital

Dunedin Hospital is again trying to control another suspected
outbreak of Norovirus.
Five patients and a staff member in the orthopaedic surgical
unit have fallen ill with vomiting and diarrhoea in the last 48
hours.
It is the third suspected outbreak of Norovirus at Dunedin
Hospital this year.
Hospital managers say they won’t be admitting new patients to
the ward, and are warning visitors to stay away at least until
Wednesday.

India's Aurobindo Pharma gets tentative US FDA approval for

MUMBAI (Thomson Financial) – India's Aurobindo Pharma Ltd. said it has received
tentative approval from the U.S. Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) to
manufacture and market Abacavir Sulfate or Lamivudine tablets, used in the
treatment of AIDS.
In a regulatory filing, Aurobindo added that the tablets, cleared for
manufacture in strengths of 600 mg and 300 mg, are generics of SmithKline
Beecham Corp.'s Epzicom.

Aso shoring up LDP support / Majority of LDP Diet members seen

Beta Blocker Use Questioned in Non-Heart Surgery

MONDAY, Nov. 10 (HealthDay News) — An analysis of 33 studies on drugs known as beta blockers has concluded that they are not useful in any surgical procedure other than heart surgery. In fact, using beta blockers for non-coronary surgery may actually increase the risk of stroke, the scientists say.

Hunter charged with manslaughter after baby he shot dies

SWAN LAKE – A Howard Beach man is in the Sullivan County Jail charged with manslaughter in the second degree in connection with the shooting death of a 16-month-old baby.
Edward Taibi. 45. had been hunting in Swan Lake when he fired a shot from his rifle.  The bullet went through the wall of a nearby trailer and hit the child, Charly Skala, of Woodbourne, who died of her injuries at Westchester Medical Center Sunday night.
