Women's fitness center opens in Fox Lake

FOX LAKE – As the days turn colder, some people will find it harder to stay on a regular workout schedule. Not members of Venus Fitness in Fox Lake.

City man injured in hit-and-run accident

Buffalo police are investigating a hit-and-run accident that injured a man at Niagara and Hudson streets at about 8 a. m. on Saturday.
Hector Ferra, 42, of Buffalo, was crossing Niagara when a burgundy sport utility vehicle struck and injured him. The driver never stopped, police spokesman Michael J. DeGeorge said.

Lightning's Heward released from hospital

Tampa, FL (Sports Network) – Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Jamie Heward was released from a Washington, DC hospital Friday and is headed back to Florida after suffering a concussion during Thursday's game against the Capitals.

Melamine found in new powder shipments

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has found melamine in 100 tonnes of powdered milk shipped from China by dairy product manufacturer Dairy Plus Co.
The company is a subsidiary of Dutch Mill Co, which recently had a shipment of 22 tonnes of milk powder seized after it tested positive for melamine, a substance considered a lethal health hazard.

Barbara Bush out of ICU after surgery

— Former first lady Barbara Bush was moved out of the intensive care unit of a Houston, Texas, hospital into a regular room Thursday after surgery to repair and seal a perforated ulcer, a hospital spokeswoman said.
