Georgia’s budget woes aren’t stopping the state from ringing in the new year with a hefty tax break for the insurance industry.
Among the new Georgia laws that will take effect Jan. 1 is one that will eliminate the state and local taxes for insurance carriers that offer high-deductible health plans.

A veterinary expert has issued a warning after a potentially lethal drug was stolen from a vet’s surgery.
Burglars broke into Riverside Veterinary Surgery, Brecon Road, Abergavenny, on Friday 2 January.
A quantity of Euthatal, blue in colour and used to destroy animals, was removed, along with dangerous sedatives Sedatov and Atipamezole.

New doubts have emerged over the fitness of English entry Yellowstone for tomorrow’s Melbourne Cup.
