Milpitas woman run over and killed by her own SUV

A 32-year-old Milpitas woman run over by her vehicle died Wednesday.
At about 9 17 a.m., Trang Phu was outside her 2008 Dodge Durango in the driveway of her home on Cestaric Drive when the SUV began moving. Phu tried to stop the car, but was unsuccessful and the SUV rolled over her, said Norma Contreras, an investigator with the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Costs shifting to workers to save on health plans

Milwaukee-area employers have curtailed rising health care costs this year by passing on some of the cost increases to employees, a new survey shows.
Of 225 companies responding to the 2008 Employer Health Care Benefits Survey, 48 percent said increasing employee deductibles and copays helped contain health costs in 2008. Woman's hens a medical need, she tells council

A Greenville woman told County Council on Monday night that the chickens she has kept for 16 years are a medical necessity for a disabled daughter.
She was facing neighbors who said the smell and noise has escalated, damaging their property values a stone’s throw from Haywood Road and East North Street.

Baby dies as bug strikes hospital

A baby has died and six others are in an isolation ward after an infection struck at the neo-natal unit of a Birmingham hospital.
The baby was born prematurely at Heartlands Hospital almost two weeks ago and was one of two to become infected with Serratia bacteria.
A hospital spokeswoman said staff were hopeful the second baby would go home “in the next few weeks”.
Five other babies have tested positive for the bacteria on their skin.

Nurse sues after fingertip is bitten off by jail inmate

REDDING, Calif. — A nurse is suing Shasta County after a jail inmate brought to the hospital for a mental-health evaluation bit off her fingertip during a fight.
Joyce Green says sheriff’s deputies didn’t properly supervise the inmate at Redding’s Shasta Regional Medical Center in May.
