Palm Desert council gets fitness-aquatic center update

The Palm Desert City Council today saw plans to put a sleek, LEED-certified fitness and aquatic center in Civic Center Park. The 64,500 square-foot facility would come fully loaded with two pools, a gymnasium with indoor running track, yoga and exercise rooms, a banquet hall and a “green” roof.

Alcohol far more often to blame for date rape than drugs

I read with interest of the rape conviction of former Matsqui prison guard Balkar Singh Basra. I don’t questions the conviction, but I do question the accuracy (and relevance) of the judge’s finding that the intoxication was not by alcohol.
As an emergency physician, I have tested for “date rape” drugs (including GHB, rohypnol and ketamine) more than 100 times, often at the patient’s request, and have yet to see a positive result.

Former Maryland employee pleads guilty in $1.7M health claims scheme

A former Maryland employee pleaded guilty Wednesday to stealing more than $1.7 million from the Maryland
