Children’s Hospital received state approval to build a $480 million replacement hospital on its downtown Birmingham campus on Wednesday.
The State Health Planning and Development Agency’s Certificate of Need Board approved Children’s plans for a 700,000-square-foot, 332-bed facility. Children’s bid to replace its outdated and overcrowded current hospital was unopposed.

Boy, 7, leads police to drugs stash in raid

A 7-year-old boy helped the police to find hidden drugs during a raid in which his parents were arrested yesterday.
Five people were taken into custody after police swooped on a Mt Roskill Housing New Zealand home looking for opiate-based “home bake” drugs. The narcotics are often crushed and injected intravenously.

FDA Denies Approval Of Gardasil For Older Women, But Why?
Washington (dbTechno) – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has denied approval of the Merck & Co. cervical cancer vaccine Gardasil for older women, stating that they want more data from the drug maker.
