Moog buys Lithuanian medical device maker

East Aurora aerospace company Moog Inc. is wrapping up 2008 with a European acquisition.
Moog purchased Lithuanian medical device maker, AITECS Medical UAB, for $21 million. AITECS manufactures syringe-style therapy pumps for general use by hospitals, operating rooms and patient-controlled analgesia.

FDA approval for Uloric as treatment for gout

US FDA has given approval to Uloric by Takeda Pharma for treatment of gout.
Patients of gout suffer from a painful condition with high levels of uric acid that can build up in the blood, joints and soft tissue.
According to Takeda, the Japanese drug maker, Uloric is the first new treatment option in more than four decades for gout. More than 5 million Americans are affected by the disease which causes inflammatory arthritis in men 40 and older.

Millions of kids provided with health insurance

Starting Wednesday, millions of American children can have the health care they need, thanks a the bill signed into law by President Barack Obama. This fulfills one of the promises he made on the campaign trail.

FDA Approves “Eyelash Fertilizer”

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the cosmetic use of an eye disease drug, allowing it to be sold as an eyelash enhancer.
Currently called Lumigan, the drug is produced by Allergan, the same pharmaceutical company responsible for Botox.
Lumigan was originally developed to treat glaucoma; however, researchers at Allergan discovered that patients who used the drug grew
