LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is considering hiring an independent inspector to monitor the county’s troubled hospitals and clinics.
Supervisor Gloria Molina, who submitted the proposal Tuesday, said the board needs a way to get reliable information from the Department of Health Services about the state of county-run hospitals.
She said the department did not properly inform the board about problems at the county-run Read the rest of this entry »

Ramstad's quest for mental health parity finally realized

WASHINGTON — The urgency of Friday’s vote — one of the last of his House career — wasn’t lost on veteran U.S. Rep. Jim Ramstad.
After he and others had spent more than 12 years trying to get a federal law requiring insurers to cover mental health in the same way as physical health, the measure was going before the House again, this time as part of the massive, controversial financial rescue bill.
A week earlier, the House and Senate had passed Read the rest of this entry »

Kenny Hulshof’s health-care plan makes ambitious claims about making health insurance available to 700,000 uninsured Missourians.
But a close look at the plan suggests that such a goal may be overly optimistic. Such a result would reduce the ranks of the uninsured by 96 percent. Similar proposals in other states have come nowhere near persuading that many uninsured residents to buy health insurance.
Hulshof spokesman Scott Baker said the Read the rest of this entry »

Since being ousted from the U.S. Senate Read the rest of this entry »
