LONDON (Reuters) – Measuring a woman’s heart rate at rest can help predict her risk of heart attack or dying from heart disease, giving doctors a simple, inexpensive way to monitor health risks, researchers said on Wednesday.

California’s severe budget crisis could worsen further if state leaders fail to resolve a dispute with the federal government over a successful family-planning program for the poor.

A longtime Mesa family with vast real-estate and petroleum holdings has pledged a $10 million gift to Banner Health to aid the Banner Children’s Hospital expansion under construction in Mesa.
The Cardon family gift will help fund an expansion that aims to make the hospital one of the top pediatric-care institutions in the Southwest.

Takeshi Koizumi, 46, is accused of killing bureaucrat Takehiko Yamaguchi and his wife Michiko last week and stabbing 72-year-old Yasuko Yoshihara.
