Traces of the industrial chemical melamine have been detected in samples of top-selling U.S. infant formula, but federal regulators insist the products are safe.

MetroWest Medical Center’s top executive said yesterday that Newton-Wellesley Hospital’s proposed Framingham outpatient center could hurt his institution and create redundant services.
