Investigators target second peanut plant

Federal health officials are investigating another Peanut Corp. of America processing plant as a possible second source in the national salmonella outbreak, officials said Monday.
Peanut Corp.’s plant in Plainview, Texas, was identified as a potential source of salmonella after Colorado health officials found six cases that have the same genetic fingerprint as the salmonella cases linked to the Blakely plant.

RPA defends axing women's health ward

The managers of Sydney’s Royal Prince Alfred (RPA) Hospital have defended a decision to close its women’s health ward.
The ward is for patients who have had treatment such as gynaecological surgery. They will now be treated in mixed wards.
The hospital is also considering closing its children’s ward.
The executive director of RPA, Di Gill, says improvements in treatment mean a dedicated ward is no longer needed.

Japan to extend current Diet session for 25 days
