HERSHEY, Pa. (AP) — At Hershey Medical Center, a sophisticated computer program serves as a watchdog for infection outbreaks.
With a few mouse clicks on a Web browser, the hospital’s infection-control staffers can quickly generate reports with charts and graphs illustrating how many patients within a particular unit are infected, and which lab specimen contained the germs.

A major drugs company has agreed to pay the Scottish Government and health boards more than £1m in compensation for alleged price-fixing.
Ranbaxy (UK) Ltd agreed to the £1,057,500 payment on a “full and final basis” but did not admit liability.
The deal with the drugs company was reached following a legal claim lodged in 2005 by Scottish ministers against several pharmaceutical companies.

The average cost of a hospital stay in Maryland rose 6.3 percent in 2007, according to a report released Wednesday by the
