TUESDAY, Dec. 23 (HealthDay News) — The war against cancer gathered steam in 2008, as new drugs tackled the toughest cancers with some success, and advances were made in both disease prevention and risk factor identification.

NEW YORK (AP) – A construction worker at the new Yankee Stadium was taken to a hospital after falling 4 feet off a mobile scaffold.
The city Department of Buildings said the worker was jolted off the scaffold when one of its wheels hit a drain Friday afternoon. Firefighters earlier estimated the fall at 12 feet, but the buildings agency later said it was shorter.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Lawmakers are challenging Gov. Jim Gibbons proposals to close 11 of the state’s 21 rural mental health clinics and increase the number of patients per staff member at mental health facilities in Reno and Las Vegas.
Mental health services would decrease 5 percent to $473 million, which legislators say jeopardizes the health and safety of Nevada communities, especially rural ones.

LONG BEACH – Arraignment was postponed Thursday in the case of a Long Beach father accused of selling drugs in his Woman, Infants and Children shop.
Benjamin Vega, 42, appeared briefly in the Long Beach Superior Court but did not enter a plea, court staff said.
