SALEM TOWNSHIP — The county-run Riverview HealthCare Campus is the best nursing home in Ottawa County, according to a federal agency that rates facilities.
The 190-bed home received three out of five stars for overall care last week from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. That means Riverview is an “about average” home, according to the ratings scale.

Roughly a quarter of Mississippi’s nursing homes rank at the bottom and fewer than an eighth are at the top in a new federal rating system based on quality of care, staffing and health inspections.
But Mississippi isn’t the worst when it comes to caring for older residents. More than a dozen states have higher percentages of nursing homes ranked below average, according to a USA Today analysis of the ratings.
