WASHINGTON — National health spending grew in 2007 at the lowest rate in nine years, mainly because prescription drug spending increased at the slowest pace since 1963, the government reported Monday.

SAUK RAPIDS Longtime Sauk Rapids-Rice Superintendent Greg Vandal has been given a three-year contract extension that would keep him in the district through June 2012.
Vandal has been superintendent of the 3,700-student district since 1995. He also served almost six years as a superintendent in the Eden Valley-Watkins district. Vandal turns 54 on Oct. 29 and is eligible for retirement in 2010.

A fire ravaged a Danville home Sunday morning, causing an estimated $1 million worth of damage and sending one person to the hospital, the fire protection district said.
One person was injured in the blaze at 8 Diamond Court and taken to San Ramon Regional Medical Center, according to a statement from the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District. The cause is unknown and the district is investigating.
