Patients who sought information from the Internet, newspapers and magazines were more likely than others to have heard of the “targeted” therapies cetuximab, sold as Erbitux, and bevacizumab, sold as Avastin. Dalai Lama taken to Indian hospital

The Dalai Lama has been admitted to hospital in India after complaining of pains in his arm.
Tibet’s exiled spiritual leader was undergoing tests in New Delhi on Monday after saying that he had a “mild discomfort” in his arm, his spokesman said.
“The doctors have said it is not serious at all. They thought it is better to have an evaluation before he travels to Europe on February 8,” Chhime Chhoekyapa said.

Mobile clinic will service Mandela's village

The (former Transkei) village where Nelson Mandela was born has received a health boost in the form of a mobile clinic donated by an American non-profit organisation.
Eastern Cape health department spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo said the clinic vehicle was handed over in a ceremony at Mvezo village on Wednesday.
The clinic would serve six villages in the area, he said.

Vegan diet is not best for felines

I have a young, healthy male cat named Mink. He lives indoors and gets
the best food, toys and veterinary care available. The problem is that I’m a vegan. I have a hard time knowing even the
high-quality foods he’s eaten all his life come from animals raised on inhumane factory farms. Recently I’ve been transitioning him to a commercial vegan feline diet but Mink hasn’t been taking well to it. My vet thinks I’m crazy to try this, by the way.
