Gophers' Lucia has undisclosed illness

Gophers men’s hockey coach Don Lucia never has missed a game because of illness in 22 seasons as a head coach at three colleges.
That streak might end tonight when the Gophers play Brown in the second game of the Dodge Holiday Classic at Mariucci Arena.
Lucia has made only one brief appearance this week at the rink because of an undisclosed medical problem. Whether Lucia returns tonight depends on his health.

Rebuffed party crashers kill 2 in Tacoma

TACOMA – Uninvited guests who tried to crash two separate parties fired shots that killed two people in unrelated incidents Saturday night and early Sunday in Tacoma, officers said.
The first incident unfolded at 10:25 p.m. Saturday at a “Sweet 16″ birthday party at a community center in the 7800 block of South L Street in Tacoma, said Mark Fulghum of the Tacoma police.

7 hospitalized following gas leak in Modesto unit

MODESTO, Calif.—Seven people were hospitalized after being exposed to dangerously high concentrations of carbon monoxide leaking inside a Stanislaus County housing complex.
Modesto firefighters discovered the problem Sunday after workers at Memorial Medical Center reported adults and children had checked in complaining of headaches, fainting and fatigue.
Officials say several of the victims were in serious condition.

Nursing home quality varies by region in Mass.

BOSTON – More affluent areas of Massachusetts tend to have higher quality nursing homes, according to an Associated Press review of federal data.
