Death, drugs tarnish Motown's legacy

Some time during the 1970s, Marvin Gaye reflected on his turbulent career in an obscure tune called “Dream of a Lifetime.”
“I thank God for my wonderful life,” sang the Motown Records enfant terrible. “I’ve had my ups and downs, but I thank God.”
Gaye’s life ended violently in 1984. His father, a former preacher, shot him dead during a domestic dispute the day before the singer turned 45.

Medical examiner's office identifies motorcyclist

The Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office has identified a 62-year-old Los Altos man as the victim of a fatal motorcycle collision Friday morning on eastbound state Highway 237 in Mountain View.
Bruce Mackenzie was riding a 2002 Harley Davidson that rear-ended a lawn maintenance truck carrying fertilizer and then burst into flames just east of southbound state Highway 85, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Santa Clara County DA reviewing allegations of cover-up in ex

Santa Clara County District Attorney Dolores Carr is now reviewing evidence of whether a pair of San Jose police officers tried to cover up the drunken driving of a former cop, the Mercury News has learned.
Carr will determine if the two officers broke a law and should be charged with a crime.

2nd out-of-state teen dropped at Omaha hospital

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — A second teenager from outside Nebraska has been left at an Omaha hospital under the state’s unique safe-haven law, apparently after his parent flew to the city specifically to abandon him, state officials said Monday.
A 13-year-old Michigan boy was left at Creighton University Medical Center early Monday morning, said Nebraska Health and Human Services spokeswoman Kathie Osterman.
