Health Care Costs Rising 5 Times Faster Than Wages

Family health care premiums in Tennessee rose about five times faster than wages between 2000 and 2007.
That’s according to a new study by the nonprofit Families USA, which advocates health care for everyone.

ATLANTA, Dec. 19 (UPI) — The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Influenza A (H1N1) is showing resistance to the drug oseltamivir (Tamiflu).
The agency based in Atlanta said patients suspected of having Influenza A should instead be treated with the antiviral drug Relenza or a combination Tamiflu and rimantadine. The CDC (

Man communicating at Utah hospital after bonfire accident

NAMPA, Idaho »
A Nampa man burned in a bonfire accident two weeks ago is now communicating by nodding his head and responding to voice commands at a Utah hospital.
Jud Winters, 21, was airlifted to the University of Utah Burn Center in Salt Lake City after the incident in which he was burned over 90 percent of his body.

Fire strikes Jewish Hospital

An early morning fire Thursday at Jewish Hospital forced the evacuation of 40 patients and caused more than $2 million in damage.
The blaze started about 4 a.m. on the roof of the hospital’s six-story tower, prompting a response from more than 100 firefighters. No one was hurt, but fire and water severely damaged equipment on at least two floors of the 200-bed hospital.

Child abandoned at Papillion hospital

PAPILLION, Neb. (AP) – Alegent Health spokeswoman Kelly Grinnell has confirmed that a child has been left at Midlands Community Hospital under Nebraska’s safe haven law.
Grinnell said the child was drpopped off at the hospital Sunday afternoon. She said details, such as age and sex of the child, would be released by the Department of Health and Human Services.
