$1M Settlement in Hospital Death

ATLANTA (AP) Georgia will pay a million-dollar settlement over the death of 59-year-old Michael Ernest Webb, a Vietnam veteran from Gwinnett County who was a patient at one of the state-run psychiatric hospitals.
The Department of Human Resources operates the hospitals and agency spokeswoman Dena Smith says officials would have no comment on the settlement for Webb's family.

Hospital pulls peanut butter as a precaution

Food we thought was safe to eat is now ending up on the list of products being pulled from store shelves and cafeterias, as the salmonella outbreak grows. The FDA thinks the problem stems from peanut butter and peanut paste that came from The Peanut Corporation of America’s Georgia plant. St. John’s hospital in Springfield doesn’t have any products that have hit the recall list, but just to be safe, they pulled all peanut butter products on Friday.

Three local salmonella cases are linked to outbreak

WOOSTER — The Wayne County Health Department received confirmation three local salmonella cases, first reported in December to the Ohio Department of Health, are linked to the national outbreak. No deaths have come as a result of the infections.

Watchdog: FDA decision under Bush put patients in danger

The rules at issue cover studies on an array of devices, including life-saving products such as defibrillators, pacemakers, coronary stents and heart valves.

Fitness director in Lehigh Acres enjoys motivating members

G.Q. Hayes wants to make other people know that they can accomplish what he has accomplished.

Oscar winner Attenborough in hospital after fall

LONDON (AFP) — Oscar-winning British director and actor Richard Attenborough was in a stable condition after an accident at his home, a hospital spokesman said Saturday.
