State medical board launches investigation into birth of octuplets

SACRAMENTO – The Medical Board of California has begun an investigation into the doctors involved in case of the Whittier mother who gave birth to the country’s second set of octuplets.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the board stated, “We are looking into the matter to see if we can substantiate a violation of the standard of care.”

International Bust Yields Over $28 Million In Cash, Drugs

Federal indictments unsealed in San Diego charge 35 people with smuggling drugs to California from Mexico.
U.S. Attorney Karen Hewitt said Wednesday that 19 of the 35 people indicted had been arrested. The others are at large.
During the 18-month investigation, authorities seized $10 million in cash, 1,500 pounds of cocaine, 1,600 pounds of marijuana and 371 pounds of methamphetamine.

Denver medical response time lags

Denver’s emergency medical response system is dragging in three critical areas: dispatching 911 calls, getting first responders to the scene and then getting ambulances to sick or dying patients, according to a city audit.
