Once again, a drug has won approval in Europe before the U.S. This time, it’s the anticlotting drug prasugrel from Eli Lilly and Daiichi Sankyo. The companies
that the drug has been greenlighted in Europe for certain patients who have stents put in to clear the arteries around the heart.
The drug, marketed under the name Efient, will compete with the blockbuster Plavix, which is co-marketed by Bristol-Myers Squibb and Sanofi-Aventis.

CHICAGO (Reuters) – Walgreen Co said on Wednesday that it is marketing a combination of its clinics, pharmacies and other services to businesses looking to save on employee healthcare costs.

Beginning Sunday, there will be new limits on the amounts of medical marijuana users can have at any one time – and not everyone is happy about it.
Ten years ago Washington state voters approved an initiative legalizing the use of medical marijuana for patients with a doctor’s authorization. But users, doctors and police have been in a legal quandary because the initiative never set a limit as to how much is too much.

For an agency that claims to be rooting out conflicts of interest, the Food and Drug Administration has done a poor job of handling what looks like a potential conflict on a committee evaluating the safety of bisphenol-A, known as BPA.

Indian pharmaceutical companies including Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories and Sun Pharma would require at least 12 to 14 FDA approvals to achieve their 20% sales growth target in the U.S., according to a Credit Suisse report. Ranbaxy Laboratories, which is under investigation for manufacturing violations, needs 20 more approvals to hit the target this year, the report said.
