WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Republicans fell short Wednesday in their effort to curtail the expansion of a government health insurance program for lower-income children.
The Senate rejected the Republican proposal by a resounding 65-32 vote. Democratic lawmakers say the GOP’s legislation didn’t go far enough, covering only about 2 million uninsured children, or roughly half the number that Democrats’ seek to cover.

An inquest has heard a convicted drug offender may have been shot dead at Griffith in New South Wales because he was having an extramarital affair.
Antonio Romeo was shot while working on his family farm near Griffith in 2002.

During a 28-week trial, drug developer Vivus Inc. discovered their experimental drug Qnexa helped obese people lose an average of 9.2 percent of their weight, Reuters reported.
