UTMB’s ‘potential’ is fudge and fluff

Please forgive our skepticism, but it is based on sad history. On Friday, this newspaper published a reassuring-sounding letter from Kenneth Shine, interim chancellor of the University of Texas System, to his “colleagues” at UTMB.
Shine, as he has done for years, made the right noises in that letter in order to allay fears — and to silence critics — at the University of Texas Medical Branch and here in Galveston.

Fitness Club Puts “Green” Pool in Newest Facility

that Premier Fitness has added a heat recovery dehumidifier to the 6,000-square-foot aquatics room at the center of its new gym in Oshawa, outside Toronto, Canada. The  room features two large swimming pools, a 140 square foot whirlpool, a 60-foot-long waterslide, and a six-foot-diameter water umbrella.

KCAT move makes room for fitness center at Los Gatos High School

The community television station that serves Los Gatos, KCAT TV15, is moving to a new location so that Los Gatos High School can open up a fitness center.
KCAT’s current studio is at the back of the high school near the football field and tennis courts and next to the field house and weight room. Its new home will be located near the swimming pool. Hospital executive says cooperation in federal probe has hampered

Seventeen percent of US kids are overweight

One-third of those born in 2000 will develop diabetes in their lives. The statistics are grim.

China to Spend $123 Billion on Universal Health Coverage
