When Lighten Up Iowa began eight years ago, the program’s focus was to help people shed the pounds.
Since then, the goal has expanded to encompass more overall health, said Jim Hallihan, executive director of the Iowa Sports Foundation, which runs the program. That shift meant finding a more appropriate name for the statewide, 100-day, team-based weight loss and physical activity challenge.

BEACON – A Beacon man is in the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail after his arrest early Friday morning for possessing a loaded .38 cal. revolver, six bags of PCP and a quantity of cocaine.
Police arrested Scott Cummings, Jr., 18, after he bolted from the back seat of a car he was in when it was stopped for traffic violations at 1:45 a.m. He was caught a short time later with the aid of a police K-9.

Naperville Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for numerous thefts from lockers at X-Sport Fitness, 2780 Fitness Drive, Naperville.
