A mentally ill Chula Vista man who killed his mother on what he said were orders from the CIA was committed yesterday to a state mental hospital by a judge.
Kaijamar “Kai” Dion Carpenter “was severely psychotic and dangerous on a constant basis since 2004, particularly to his mother,” ruled Chula Vista Superior Court Judge Raymond Edwards Jr.

Salmonella poisoning spreads, but no Q-C cases
Fallout from the latest food-poisoning scare continues across the country, and the public is being warned to keep an eye out for possibly contaminated peanut-based products.

A man has been attacked by a panda at a park in southern China, after he climbed into its enclosure hoping to cuddle the creature.
The 20-year-old student had ignored warning signs and scaled a two-metre (6.5ft) barrier to get into the pen.
State media say the panda bit him on his arms and legs, and he had to be rescued by the animal’s keepers.
