FDA Approves Baby Formula Melamine Levels

On Friday, the FDA set a
of 1 part per million of melamine in formula. Conveniently, the threshold is above the levels found in U.S. baby formula. This assumes, the FDA states, provided a related chemical, cyanuric acid, is not present. They also insisted that U.S. baby formulas are safe.
The FDA will still not set a standard if both are present; the tainted samples did not have both chemicals.

Allina announces new president for United Hospital

in St. Paul has a new president.
Tomi Ryba, who is presently the chief operating officer at the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center, will take over at United Hospital on Feb. 17, said Ken Paulus, the president and COO at United’s parent, Allina Hospitals & Clinics.

Program aids baby health

LONG term breastfeeding rates in Brimbank are increasing under the Healthy Brimbank Babies program.
The Tweddle Child and Family Health Service project is aimed at increasing longer-term breastfeeding rates in the Brimbank region, providing home visits to mums along with breastfeeding information sessions for general practitioners and playgroups.
Tweddle Community Services Manager Leann Williams said feedback from the program had been positive.

Methodist delays Mississippi hospital plan
