WASHINGTON (AP) — If you’re looking for a little help shedding extra pounds after the holidays, the government is warning you to stay away from nearly 30 weight-loss products that contain unlisted and possibly dangerous ingredients.
The pills are advertised as “natural” fat busters and have intriguing names like Imelda Perfect Slim and Zhen de Shou. Some suggest they are innovative “herbal” remedies from Asia.

Falls girl, 17, shot in leg in Buffalo
A 17-year-old Niagara Falls girl is listed in fair condition today in Erie County Medical
Center after a shooting late Saturday in Buffalo.
Kayla McCarthy was in a home on Fulton Street at about 9:35 p.m. when a masked man entered
and shot her in the leg.
The incident happened in an apartment between Chicago and Louisiana streets, near South

US group decries fewer FDA device inspections

WASHINGTON, Feb 18 (Reuters) – The Project on Government
Oversight (POGO) on Wednesday called for an investigation into
the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s dwindling number of
early laboratory inspections for high-risk medical devices.

hire and train additional inspectors to monitor laboratories

Five babies die in fire at India hospital

NEW DELHI, India (CNN)
— Five newborn babies died Saturday in a suspected fire in their incubator at a government-run hospital in the north Indian state of Punjab, police said.
“Apparently it was a fire from a short circuit in their incubator,” said R.K. Sharma, police superintendent of Punjab’s Patiala city.
An inquiry has been ordered into the incident at Rajindra hospital, Sukhbir Singh Badal, the state’s deputy chief minister, told CNN.
