New York – The FDA has declined to approve Gardasil for women 27 to 45, stating that it needs additional information before it will approve Merck’s cervical cancer vaccine. Girls aged 9 to 26 are already approved to receive Gardasil, but in the face of disappointing sales to this age group, this is the second attempt by Merck to expand the approved age group. A Provo marketer of health supplements has been warned by the federal Food and Drug Administration about claims on its Web sites for alternative medicines that profess to cure users of diseases, “smart bomb” cancer and make AIDS disappear in three days.
The agency sent True Renewal a letter this month advising it that the claims mean its products are defined as drugs and violate the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act.

Holyrood’s five opposition parties have united to launch an action plan to tackle hospital-acquired infections.
The proposals, drawn up with the help of expert Professor Hugh Pennington, aim to halve the number of C.difficile cases within two years.
The move came after an outbreak at Vale of Leven hospital in Dunbartonshire, in which 18 patients died.
