CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
At dinner recently, Ken Chelcun swallowed a bigger bite of his taco than he should have and suffered a little digestive distress.

The Mediterranean diet is well known for having an abundance of fresh fruit, vegetables, fish, red wine and lashings of olive oil.
Research by Professor of Epidemiology at Harvard School of Public Health, Dr. Dimitrios Trichopoulos, shows that those who adhere to a Mediterranean diet have a lower risk of developing cancer.
Previous studies have already showed that the diet can reduce the risk of heart disease and diabetes.
