HONOLULU – The state Department of Health wants the public to avoid eating peanut products unless people are sure the U.S. Food and Drug Administration did not recall the items. Officials said that goes for pets, too.
So far five cases in Hawaii are linked with a nationwide outbreak of salmonella, although none of the local cases has a verifiable exposure to the products on the recall list.

General Motors Corp. is reducing life insurance benefits for most of its white-collar retirees and cutting back on company provided-health care for some retired salaried workers younger than 65.
The cost-cutting move comes along with GMs announcement Tuesday that it is cutting its worldwide salaried workforce by 10,000 and reducing U.S. white-collar workers base-pay by as much as 10%.
