I-70 closed after semi spills pipes; 3 taken to hospital

GARFIELD COUNTY - The Colorado State Patrol says Interstate 70 could be backed up for several hours because of a rollover accident involving a semi truck.
According to the CSP, the truck’s driver lost control around 2 p.m. Saturday and the truck rolled over. There were several large metal pipes inside the truck that spilled out and smashed into seven cars.

Highway Patrol: Assistant DA impaired by drugs, not booze

– Buncombe County Assistant District Attorney Rodney Gene Hasty resigned Monday after being charged with driving while impaired.
The N.C. Highway Patrol said Hasty, 39, displayed a “thick tongue, slurred speech, red-glassy eyes,” and was “unsteady on his feet,” after a crash Friday, according to documents filed at the Buncombe County Magistrate’s Office.

County Hospital Move Finishes Smoothly

Boyle Heights-Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center completed its two-day move into a new facility Saturday afternoon.
The last of the 400 patients were moved after 1 p.m., and the new hospital began accepting ambulance traffic after 3 p.m., said Pete Delgado, the hospital’s chief executive officer.
The move went smoothly, Delgado said.

Prescription abuse more deadly than illegal drugs

Prescription drug abuse is on the rise and so are the deaths attributed to it, according to a state medical examiner epidemiologist who compiled data for the most recent annual report, which was released last week.
