The Delaware woman involved in the head-on crash Saturday that took the life of a Niagara Falls man was listed in fair condition Sunday in Erie County Medical Center.
Lois J. Broeker, 49, of Wilmington, was airlifted by Mercy Flight to ECMC after the crash, which happened at about 2:12 p. m. on the Lockport Road bridge in the Town of Niagara.

Lt. James App was released Monday after being treated for burns at St. Francis Memorial Hospital, the Fire Department said. App, an eight-year veteran, suffered first-, second- and third-degree burns. Four other firefighters were previously treated and released.

The Minnesota Department of Health says Hib (haemophilus influenza type B) is making a comeback.
“This is the highest number of cases we’ve had since 1992,” said Dr. Ruth Lynfield from the Department of Health.
Five cases of this rare influenza strain were reported in Minnesota last year. Health officials say three of them, including one death, involved young children who had not been vaccinated.

District Attorney Paul Howard said Monday an ephedra-based diet drug may have played a role in the murder of a police officer.
That revelation, he said, influenced him to agree to take Kenneth Gerald Reese’s plea of guilty in exchange for life imprisonment without parole in the death-penalty trial set to begin this week. said Monday the Food and Drug Administration granted its cancer drug pralatrexate special status that will protect it from market competition if approved.
The company is developing pralatrexate for a type of cancer called diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. The FDA granted the candidate orphan drug status, which it typically does for drugs aimed at treating rare conditions.
