NEW YORK (Associated Press) – Colgate-Palmolive Co. said Thursday that Chief Executive Ian Cook was given the additional title of chairman.
He will replace former CEO Reuben Mark, who will give up the post on Dec. 31. Mark was chairman for 22 years.
The move is consistent with previously announced succession plans, the company said in a statement.

Hospital says it will cut
about 10 percent of its work force, the equivalent of 160 full-time
positions, by the end of September.
The hospital says some jobs will be eliminated by attrition and
leaving vacant spots open, but that an undetermined number of
layoffs also is expected.
It reported an $8.5 million lost for its last budget year,
almost double the $4.3 million loss it absorbed in the previous
fiscal year.

SAN JOSE – Narcotics agents arrested a San Jose man this month suspected of supplying South County gang members with methamphetamine to sell on the streets, authorities reported Friday.
They were tipped off to Ruben Lozano Hurtado’s alleged drug dealing late last year during the “Operation Red Bull,” according to Rich Westphal, commander of Santa Cruz County Narcotics Enforcement Team.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Eartha Kitt, who rose from the Southern cotton fields to captivate audiences around the world with sultry performances as a singer, dancer and actress, died on Thursday at the age of 81.

The interim chief executive of Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake says the hospital is laying off about 20 people.
CEO Thomas Robinson says the layoffs are a “last resort” from a work force of about 215 employees.
