Efforts to properly dispose of medicine increase

When her mother died in late October, Wendy Krakosky of Madison Heights wondered what to do with all her unused medications.
“They were just sitting there,” she said, holding open a bag of orange bottles and blister packs containing the drugs her mother took to prevent organ rejection, nausea and inflammation following a 2004 lung transplant.

Same sex couple: Marriage in Iowa about family

It’s not about Reva and Ingrid anymore – it’s about their son. In the journey to achieve same-sex marriage in the state of Iowa, their view of marriage has changed.

Real men don’t diet, but they can get slimmer and fitter

Imagine two groups of friends having a drink in the pub on a Friday night. One is a group of women, the other men. Among all the usual chat about The X Factor and the credit crunch, the subject of weight and dieting comes up. The women talk about how much weight they’ve lost and the diets they’ve tried. The men, on the other hand, slap each other’s beer bellies and, with much laughter, joke about how many lagers it’s taken to create them.

Diet Cleanses: Myth or fact?

By Heather Bauer, R.D.
Myth or Fact: Cleansing/Detox diets are a good way to jump start my diet?
There is little evidence to support that detox diets, such as The Master Cleanse, do much more than lead to unhealthy, unpleasant side effects. In fact, detox diets can actually do more harm than good as they lead to muscle breakdown and a shortage of some very important vitamins and minerals which weakens our immune system and our Read the rest of this entry »
