Fitness center introduces new series

The JFK Fitness center is now introducing Integrative Therapy Workshops/Qigong Series. Sign up soon as slots are filling up fast.
Workshops include “Wellness through Tai Chi” beginning Oct. 6, “Mind/Body Fitness” on Oct. 13 and “Qigong for Health: Exercises /Lungs and Kidneys” on Oct. 20. The workshops will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Fitness Center Studio, 70 James St., Edison.

Cattle rendering firms gear up for new FDA rule

WORTHINGTON, Minn. – Cattle rendering businesses in southwestern Minnesota are getting ready for a new Food and Drug Administration rule aimed at preventing mad cow disease from reaching the food supply.
Some say the rule, which takes effect in April, will lead to higher costs for beef and dairy producers who will be required to clearly mark animals that are 30 months of age or older.

CDC director Gerberding resigns at Obama’s request

CDC Director Julie Gerberding’s controversial tenure will end Jan. 20 — after Barack Obama is sworn in as president, employees of the Atlanta-based agency were informed in an email sent late Friday evening.
Until a new director is named, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s chief operating officer, Bill Gimson, will be acting director, the email said.

Three people detained, drugs worth more than RM500,000 seized

Police seized drugs, worth more than RM500,000, and detained three suspects in two separate raids in Kuala Lumpur since Friday.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Wira Muhammad Sabtu Osman said a 29-year-old Bolivian man and a Thai woman, aged 37, were detained in the Friday raid at a hotel in Brickfields at 9.15pm.
Following a search, he said, police found 94 packets cocaine, weighing 938gm and valued at RM300,000, on the man.

Laughlin Hospital Goes 'Pink' For Breast Cancer

The campus of Laughlin Memorial Hospital is turning pink this month.
Volunteers and staff members with the Laughlin Center for Women’s Health, the Laughlin Hospital Volunteers and the Laughlin Health Care Foundation have teamed up to “paint” the hospital pink with ribbons and posters to help raise awareness of breast cancer.
