Inquiry starts after flats blast

An investigation into the cause of an explosion that ripped through a block of flats in Wigan, seriously injuring two men, has been launched.
The men, aged 26 and 43, were rescued after the blast on Blake Close, Worlsey Mesnes at 2120 GMT on Saturday.
Residents from 36 neighbouring properties were moved out and specialist search teams scoured the debris to see if anyone was trapped.

3rd death in Minnesota is linked to salmonella

A third Minnesotan has died after being infected with the salmonella strain implicated in a nationwide outbreak.
Meanwhile, more food companies announced recalls of foods containing peanut butter supplied by a Georgia plant believed to be the source of the 43-state outbreak, bringing the total number of recalled products to around 200.

FDA Declines to Approve Targanta Antibiotic

said Tuesday that the U.S. drug regulators decided not to approve the company’s injectable antiobiotic oritavancin until an additional clinical study is performed.

Wildfire chases patients from LA hospital

LOS ANGELES—What began as a typical night at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center turned into organized chaos after midnight when a raging wildfire marched toward the hospital in the foothills of Los Angeles.

EPA health clinic gets $100000 grant

The Ravenswood Family Health Center in East Palo Alto has been given a $100,000 grant from the Palo Alto Medical Foundation and its parent company, Sutter Health, so the clinic can expand its diabetes management program.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. —- Tracy Lansaw’s job is to keep county firefighters in shape, but she’s saving their lives as well.
Lansaw is the Anne Arundel County Fire Department’s fitness coordinator, which means she helps them with nutritional education and workout advice. She trains other firefighters to help them keep in shape, which can prevent on-the-job injuries.

Stillwater hospital expansion on hold

A Stillwater hospital’s big plans are on hold until the economy improves.
