An overnight two-alarm fire that leveled a portion of a fitness center that is a fixture in the tiny Riverside County community of Canyon Lake could have been much worse.

OLD FORGE — Several members of the community asked the school board Wednesday to consider reopening the adult fitness gym to the public.

A building near Dorchester District Court that once housed prisoners has been transformed into a fitness center for women called Healthworks at Codman. The grand opening is scheduled for Jan. 27.
