Fitness class caters to special needs kids

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Health experts say it is important for children to be physically active, but for parents of children with disabilities, finding programs that can meet their kids’ needs can be tough.
The Family YMCA is the only fitness center in the Augusta area with a class designed especially for special need children. The class was started two years ago by Orlando Perez and Melido Mir.

USF, Haley VA Hospital partner for nursing academy

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has provided $3.5 million to the University of South Florida’s College of Nursing to establish the VA Nursing Academy.
The funding will pay for five more faculty members, which in turn, allows more students to enroll in the nursing program and helps ease the state’s nurse shortage, a release from U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor’s office said.

Life Center gets new gear, opens new medical center
ELGIN — The Life Center received “Baby Shim” for $29,000.
The ultrasound equipment that is named after the Shimadzu SDU-1100 sits in The Life Center’s newly remodeled portion of its 6,000-square-foot, 20-room building that has been converted into a new medical center.
The center supports women who are in crisis pregnancy situations by offering them materials and moral and spiritual guidance.
