Nano drugs can kill cancer cells

WASHINGTON: Nano particles that are
5,000 times as small as a human hair, carrying an experimental anti-cancer
agent, kill human melanoma and drug-resistant breast cancer cells growing in lab
cultures.
The discovery could lead to the development of a new
generation of anti-cancer drugs that are safer and more effective than
conventional chemotherapy agents, researchers suggested.

The researchers studied 2,304 women ages 18 to 30, about half of whom were black and half were white. 'Santa Suit' killer's rampage left 13 kids orphaned

LOS ANGELES — After a Christmas Eve slaying in suburban Covina that left nine people dead, surviving family members on Sunday were grappling with how to best care for the victims’ children.

WVa hospital loses $1M in Madoff funds

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — Charleston Area Medical Center and its foundation lost a combined $1 million in investments with Bernie Madoff, the New York financier accused of running a Ponzi scheme that bilked investors of $50 billion.
The foundation lost about $800,000 and the hospital lost about $200,000.
Gail Pitchford, president of the foundation, says the hospital’s philanthropic arm still has $143.8 million in assets.

EUGENE, Ore. — After using spike strips to force the suspect in a hit-and-run accident to stop, state police took the man to the Lane County Jail to book him for drunk driving and other crimes.
