WICHITA, Kansas (AP) – The Veterans Administration hospital in Wichita reports it has cut contagious staph infections in half since 2007.
The Robert J. Dole Medical Center credits screening all incoming patients with nose swabs. It isolates those who test positive for a staph germ called methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.

COMPTON, Calif.—Authorities say three women have been wounded in a drive-by shooting in Compton.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Douglas Iketani says suspects in an older model black Toyota fired about 10 rounds at the women with an assault-type weapon Wednesday night.
Iketani says rounds hit one woman in the shoulder and two of them in the buttocks.

Bomb threat made at Wash. hospital
The King County Sheriff’s Office says a man has made a bomb threat at Highline Hospital in Burien.
Sheriff’s spokesperson John Urquhart told KIRO-TV a man walked into the hospital’s emergency room Sunday afternoon and said he had a bomb in his car. Urquhart said the man is known to the staff of the hospital and has been in the emergency room in the past.

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – A Clay County father said he wants answers after his daughter and two other kids at her elementary school were accused of selling drugs and facing possible punishment all over some Vitamin C drops.
The 9-year-old girl told Channel 4 that she thinks of things like cigarettes as drugs, and she was confused when her teacher told her Halls are also considered a drug.
