AP IMPACT: Govt pays millions for unapproved drugs

WASHINGTON (AP) — Taxpayers have shelled out at least $200 million since 2004 for medications that have never been reviewed by the government for safety and effectiveness but are still covered under Medicaid, an Associated Press analysis of federal data has found. Millions of private patients are taking such drugs, as well.

Girl who fell from 5th floor dies in hospital

A girl who initially survived a fall from her family’s
fifth-floor window in a Bronx tenement died yesterday morning, police said.
The 7-year-old girl, identified by police as Chelsea Maldonado, fell 50 feet Wednesday but authorities said she was semiconscious and “making noises” when emergency medical personnel arrived at the building at 1245 Grand View Place.

Naperville hospital given green light for emergency center

’s Edward Hospital received state permission Tuesday to build an emergency center in Plainfield but continues to press its case for a hospital there.
The Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board gave Edward permission to spend $5.7 million to upgrade 15 rooms, and add an ambulance port and helicopter pad at its Immediate Care Center at 127th Street and Van Dyke Road in Plainfield. Iowa health officials want tougher tattoo rules

DES MOINES, Iowa -

rules and fees for tattoo artists in the state.
The Iowa Department of Public Health wants to more than double
