The December alert, issued by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), warned consumers not to purchase or consume 25 products claiming weight loss benefits. Of the 25 products listed in the warning, many are manufactured in or contain ingredients from China or Japan and not deemed compliant with U.S. standards. The rates that Amherst County charges for emergency medical transports have increased for the first time in nearly six years.

PORT CLINTON — Wilson’s Fitness, a long-time staple of the workout community in Port Clinton, has closed its doors.
Owner Dave Wilson said he closed the Maple Street gym he started 15 years ago because of economics.
“Lack of income and lack of people coming in,” Wilson said. “We’ve really been struggling for a couple of years,” he continued.

Michigans most stunning new hospital, the $360-million Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital, is opening soon with all-private rooms, a promise of peace and quiet, nutritious food and a wellness philosophy that will merge traditional and alternative approaches to medicine.
The 190-bed hospital begins accepting patients March 15, but provided reporters a sneak peek today. Ford already has state approval to add another 110 rooms by 2011.
