FDA OKs sharing unapproved drug uses with docs

WASHINGTON (AP) — Food and Drug Administration officials have finalized guidelines that make it easier for pharmaceutical companies to use medical journal articles to promote drugs for unapproved uses.
The final guidelines, which have been criticized by some lawmakers as too lenient, allow companies to distribute articles about their products to doctors — even when they involve uses that have not been federally approved.

Redwood City man found safe at San Jose hospital

A mentally disabled Redwood City man who was reported missing Dec. 21 has turned up safe at Valley Medical Center in San Jose, police reported Tuesday.
Danny Benavente, also known as Danny Aguilar, actually checked into the hospital the same day he was reported missing, said Sgt. Steve Blanc. But police had entered his name as Danny Benavente, while the hospital recorded it as Danny Aguilar.

Drugs valued at €212m seized by Garda last year

THE VALUE of illicit drugs seized by garda last year exceeded €200 million. The total value of main drug types seized last year was €212.3 million, compared with €167.5 million in 2007.
The seizures in both years are well ahead of trends in the previous five years, when drugs valued at between €80 million and just over €100 million were seized annually.

Raids on 3 city homes yield weapons, $100000 in drugs
