New medical school aims at lower-cost education

Medical school is hard to get into and hard to afford.
A new medical school wants to change that — especially for
people born and raised in Pennsylvania.
The Commonwealth Medical College, the nation’s first
new medical school in years, will accept its first class of
60 students in August.
The first classes will be held at Lackawanna College, a
community college in Scranton. The school plans to open its

Avantis aims to build a better cancertrap

If you or someone you love had one of the 26 million colonoscopies performed last year, the recent news from Canada had to be disconcerting. A study of 10,000 patients found that the procedure, considered the gold-standard for detecting colorectal cancer, just isn’t what it’s cracked up to be.

Government aims to cut off funding to Two Rivers Psychiatric Hospital
